The Hookworm works the same as the Tarpworm, but the convenient hook means you can remove your tie-outs and simply hook them to a 1/8 shock cord loop on your tie-out points. They work best with 1/8 shock cord, and they have just the right amount of click to make sure they are secured, yet they are easy enough to put on and take off.

You have the option of getting them with or without 6 feet of Zing-It! ™ or Lash-It! ™. The Zing-It! ™ or Lash-It! ™ will have a loop on one end and a bury on the other end so they can’t be removed from the Hookworm. Made by Dutchware and of course, Made in the USA with foreign and domestic components.

When I first received my hookworms, I was a little disappointed to see that they were designed to easily hook onto 3/32 shock cord and not just any size. I had plenty of larger diameter shock cord on hand but the worms wouldn’t work with it. So, after ordering some 3/32 cord, using it I attached some 5 in. loops to my tarp tie out points. Then I rigged some 6-7 ft guy lines using 1.75 reflective cord, slid a hookworm on ea. line, tied a knot to prevent hookworm from sliding off and proceeded to permanently secure the other end of line to my tent stakes. I then melted the cord ends to prevent fraying and was now ready to try out the hook worms on my tarp guy outs. Boy, do these little light weight but strong devices ever make staking the tarp out a quick and easy process. I have shock cord permanently attached to my tarp doors and they hook right onto the hookworms, as well. I like this system better than using the tarp worms permanently attached to guy outs on tarp, eliminating possibility of metal possibly damaging tarp when compressing into tarp stuff sack for storage. Plus, you have the added advantage of being easily able to locate your stakes with the permanent guy line attached to them. I cannot overemphasize how easy these hookworms are to use, eliminating any need to tie a knot each time you set up your tarp, tent, or whatever. Just attach your hookworm to your shock cord, adjust the tension on the guy line and make a simple back loop to secure in place. So very easy. I am so glad that I found these time saving devices. I only wish that I had invented them. Just buy some. You won’t be sorry you did.

Great for tarp guylines
I use 6 of these as guy lines to attach my tarp and tarp doors to the stakes. The are really easy to adjust and the shock cord really helps create a tight pitch!

Hookworms are making my camping life easier.
As a scouter (adult Boyscout leader) I’m versed in my knots, but when it’s raining and/or freezing my fingers just don’t want to tie my beloved taut line hitch; I want my tarp set up quickly so I can get into my hammock and my warm/dry sleeping bag. With Hookworms, as with Dutch’s other hardware, I can set up quickly and easily. Although I like the Fleaz a little bit better for their ease of use, I chose the Hookworms for my tarp tie-outs; mostly because they were cheaper ($2.40 versus $4.85)… and I needed 10 of them for my large tarp. And, really, they’re both easy to use. One of them is 9/10 ‘easy’ while the other is 10/10 ‘easy’. I recently found myself in a vigorous wind and rain-storm and not one of the Hookworms worked loose. I think this is in large part because the Hookworms attach to the tarp via a loop of shock cord, to maintain tension. So far I have experience with Dutch Hooks, Wasps, Tarpworms, Hookworms, and Fleaz, and recommend them all.

I got these to go with a new tarp. I like keeping the tie-outs tied to the stakes (cause I got fancy stakes and I don’t want to lose them) and these work perfectly that way. I find them super easy to set up, and since they are hooked to shock cord you can’t go wrong taking them off- if the loop won’t release you just unhook from the shock cord and with the tension off, there’s no issue.

I use these on my WB Superfly and love them. They make it very easy to get a tarp tied out fast without having to do much tensioning or knot tying. I used to have the Relfect-It as my guyline but I’ve switched to reflective Dutchwire, which I like more simply because it’s more vibrant in low-light conditions and works just fine.
The loop takes a bit of practice to get used to but once you’ve got it memorized it wraps around easily.

To reduce the amount of stretch, I was wondering if you could comment on any disadvantages of replacing the shock cord loops with zing-it loops instead. The hooks seem to hold on to zing-it just fine.

Ok fine, I never tied knots anyways because I have never owned a hammock before this one… But I’m sure it doesn’t get easier than this. It is stupid simple to set up and holds super strong. Taking down the lines are even easier, and it is darn near impossible to loose your stakes when they are tied to a reflective line. If you are like me and want life to be as streamlined as possible, go with these guys.

Ordered 4 hookworms with reflect-it and shock cord loops and used this with my Warbonnet Minifly during a trip to the BWCA (along with tarp flyz / zing-it for the ridgeline). Setup was stupid easy and fast. One end of the 6ft length of reflect-it is a loop so I put that over my stakes (type of stakes with a lip for something like this), hooked the hookworm to the shock cord loops on the corners of the tarp, adjusted til tight, and make those quick little loops over the hookworm tail to lock it in place. Kind of crazy how simple this is and how effective it was. If you use rocks instead of stakes you’d probably want to make longer lengths of reflect-it for your guylines.

The hook worm is super cool. I have mine tied to my stakes with about 6ft of reflective guy line. That way the lines don’t get tangled in the tarp when I roll it up. You can also set up your tarp and then unhook one side and fold it back and hook it on the other side to give yourself an unobstructed view but still give you wind protection. they are really quick to tie and untie and to adjust your lines.

I waited until I’ve used these for a while before leaving a review. I’ve probably hung my tarp and tied it out using Hookworms a few dozen times and here’s my verdict so far:
I love the simplicity of their design and it’s a heck of a lot better and faster to use these than tensioning knots, but the experience would be so much better if they were just a little bit bigger. If these Hookworms were just 50% larger, I think I wouldn’t find them accidentally slipping out of my fingers as often. I also find it a little difficult to hold onto them while twisting my line to form a loop for the tail of the Hookworm to latch on to. I like that they’re light and small, but I’d happily tote around a few more grams on a backpacking trip as a tradeoff for the Hookworms to be bigger.
